About Us

Our mission is to make individual-muscle measurement more accessible, supporting research today and advancing toward future clinical applications.

Today, mScan is an investigational device available for use in IRB-approved clinical research. It helps investigators study muscle electrical properties and follow changes over time. We are committed to the scientists, clinicians, and patients advancing our understanding of muscle disease.

Our technology

Our patented electrical impedance myography (EIM) technology was originally developed by Myolex co-founder Dr. Seward Rutkove, the Nancy Lurie Marks Chair of the Department of Neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. To date, there are over 170 published clinical research papers about EIM, 10 issued patents, and over 10 pharmaceutical company-supported clinical studies.

The mScan research device and its data platform measure the bioimpedance of individual muscles — quantitatively, painlessly, and reproducibly. Scans reflect changes in muscle composition and microstructure at the level of a single muscle or muscle group.

Seward Rutkove, MD

Seward Rutkove, MD

Co-founder

Dr. Rutkove is the Nancy Lurie Marks Chair of the Department of Neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, and the pioneer of electrical impedance myography. His research on innovative techniques for assessing neuromuscular disease has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and NASA and has produced more than 170 peer-reviewed publications. In 2011 he received the Prize4Life Biomarker Challenge Prize for demonstrating that electrical impedance measurements of muscle could accelerate clinical trials in ALS.

Kelly Florko-Pulman

Kelly Florko-Pulman

Chief Operating Officer

Kelly Florko-Pulman oversees finance, administration, and business operations at Myolex, where she has worked since 2013. She plays an important role in supporting the company’s growth as it expands EIM technology into new areas, including age-related muscle loss, obesity treatment, and sports medicine. With more than a decade at Myolex, Kelly brings a deep understanding of the company’s priorities and works closely with the leadership team and research partners to advance its mission to improve how muscle health is measured and monitored.

Sara Robicheau

Sara Robicheau

Vice President, Clinical Operations

Sara leads clinical operations at Myolex, overseeing the company’s research studies from protocol and site setup through data collection and quality review. She works closely with investigators and study teams across Myolex’s academic and industry collaborations.

Looking forward

Looking forward, we believe EIM technology has the potential to:

  1. 1reduce the cost of drug clinical trials by enabling in-home muscle measurement, which can improve patient retention and broaden participant diversity;
  2. 2support earlier diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS);
  3. 3provide a portable, lower-cost alternative to imaging methods such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for assessing specific muscle groups when detailed imaging is not clinically required; and
  4. 4help characterize changes in muscle health during weight loss with GLP-1 receptor agonist medications.
